(12,977 posts)I was particular struck by "We need to think hard about what we're going to do ... But do it in a way that lifts everybody up."
There's a huge gap between thinking about what to do and doing "it" in a way what lifts everybody us. What's the "it" that should come in between? She doesn't say. Just that it will be good for everyone.
And though she's not wrong to focus on the cities, the real problem there has to do with the way gentrification is squeezing low-income residents out of the inner cities where the jobs are -- while public transportation is either not being constructed all or not being constructed where it would serve the people who are being displaced to the decaying inner suburbs.
Housing and transportation are the key issues, and no amount of focus on "jobs" in the abstract or public-private partnerships will address that.
