On St. Patrick's Day night, this business decided to limit entry to persons over 21, so they could sell more alcohol. Martese may not have realized that, until he had a cordial conversation with the co-owner, who was originally from his same hometown of Chicago.
In any case, Martese had showed a valid ID showing he was 20 years old. Then the 3 alcohol agents took him down and bashed his head into the sidewalk.
The alcohol agents had warned the co-owner in advance that they would be watching his business closely because it had the word "Irish" in its name and because they needed to prevent "a riot." Because the ABC agents had warned him that they were going to be watching his business closely, the co-owner decided to personally work the door.
This restaurant is immediately across the street from the large UVa Medical Center and the part of UVa that was designed by Mr. Jefferson, in the middle of a row of pleasant student-oriented businesses.
