Gallo makes their own glass bottles, part of their vertical monopoly, so I was surprised to see they even ventured into boxed wine.

In the early eighties I helped developed a wine bladder for an Australian wine conglomerate that was competing against another Australian outfit that pioneered the wine in a box thingy. We built the machines that made them, including the machine that installed the valves; the actual cardboard boxes were made locally. We sold the machines to them but continued to sell them our patented valves (cash cow) manufactured in California.
