(8,710 posts)We don't know if it's a hate crime, might be, might not be. Had the criminal (and yes, convicted or not, I'm going to call him a criminal, because there is video evidence of the crime) started beating the man when he refused to lend him his cell phone, then I would agree there is no indication of a hate crime. But by beating him only after asking, and apparently not liking, the response of the victim, it can certainly be perceived as a hate crime. My personal opinion is that race, more so than not being allowed to use the cell phone, precipitated the beating. If so, then it is absolutely a hate crime.
"This is what happens when you let murderous cops get off." is a cop out, no pun intended. This young man made the conscious decision to beat this man, whatever his reason. And if your contention is that he beat him because Wilson got off, then you yourself are contradicting your statement that it isn't a hate crime.
There is no excuse for this, none. If the young criminal wants to take vengeance for the fact that Wilson was let off, then he should man up and take it up with a cop, not with an innocent man trying to get home from work.
Your seeming justification of this criminal act is appalling.
