If the victim was targeted because of his race then that's a hate crime. (Not that Missouri to my knowledge has hate crime laws. St. Louis might)
And we should be really careful in using anger (even justified anger) to rationalize this. People who do hate crimes are filled with anger, anger they see as totally legitimate and rational. Indeed, this incident feeds into that. This won't make people believe corrupt cops are the problem. It reinforces the idea that people of different races are and society is justified in treating black people differently (certainly that's how many will use the incident)
IF we start downplaying when one person gets victimized because of the ethnicities of the people involved then how an we then condemn this same sort of thing just because the racial mix gets changed around?
Because this guy was innocent. He had no say in what the Ferguson PD did. He's evidence to the adage "revenge has poor aim"
Sorry but your philosophy might be part of the problem.
