Joseph Smith was heavily involved with the Freemasons. So not too surprising that Masonic and Mormon temple rites are almost identical. Masonic symbols adorn the mormon temple. Masonic square and compass adorn the magic underwear and some Joseph Smith's last words just before being shot by a mob were "Oh, Lord, my God... Is there no help for the widow's son?"....a masonic call for help....presumambly hoping that some of the mob my have been free masons.
