4. I do not for the life of me understand why this is still a fight...

(And yeah, I saw your other threads about the sign...)

One would think that the half of the population who can give birth would have something to say about it.

I suspect it has something to do with the basic male-female relationship where the female has generally been a lesser partner throughout much of history. I don't remember where, but I read somewhere about a study that showed that in homosexual relationships (male and female) the partners were usually equal, but in heterosexual relationships there tended to be a power mismatch. Once in a while the male was the lesser partner, but guess who got the short end most of the time...

I do understand that, aside from that, many women do have problems with abortion. My mother was one who gave up her organizing for Planned Parenthood when they started talking up abortion. She was all for every other family planning option available at the time, but that one she just couldn't accept. She did not, however, join the fight against abortion-- she just avoided it.

I suspect, however, that if she were alive today she would have seen this "personhood" bullshit as just that. It may even have been enough to bring her back into the fight.

Hopefully, somebody will come up with a message pretty much everyone but the troglodytes can get behind.
