He has been known to get heavily involved in U.S. politics, however, and when he does it is only for the Democratic Party. In his lifetime, De Niro has donated over $70,000 to the Democratic Party. But that’s not all. De Niro campaigns for his favorite candidates. He’s officially endorsed Al Gore in 2000, John Kerry in 2004, and Obama in 2008. During the Clinton “Monicagate” scandal, De Niro even lobbied Congress to not impeach the president.
