12. I think the people who donated are idiots, but I don't see how its a scam

It would be a scam if the money wasn't going to the pizza shop folks as those donating intend.
And it would be a scam if the pizza shop hadn't, in fact, "felt the collective wrath of the Internet" as the article indicates and as many people (me included) thought was great when it happened.

It's just stupid people supporting stupid people.
