Middle class and working class residents cannot exist in these higher and higher priced cities where so much is being privatized and jobs and social supports are dying. No plans for the native people or anyone w/o money, and nobody cares about their lives. Historically artists have always been drawn to cities for the cultural and intellectual vitality but that's becoming impossible.
A recent post here about Rahm shouting at desperate Chicago residents whose much needed community mental health center was being closed, 'You're going to respect me!' really says it about him. Housing costs in DC, NY, Boston, London, SF and elsewhere keep increasing with no signs of letup. At this rate our cities will become more corporate, libertarian and maybe Republican. The world is upside down-to me at least.
