In reply to the discussion: When will a Hillary Operative show up on DU? [View all]jobycom
(49,038 posts)There were a lot of anti-Clinton shills who would pop in here to set the message for whatever story was popular back then. I remember one such story about flag burning. Drudge reported Clinton was trying to pass a law against flag burning, and the shills came here and started that whole "I can't believe Hillary is supporting a ban on flag burning ARGHHH!!!!11" outrage. By the time people had read the story and gathered the facts, the story had already been set in people's minds as "Clinton is so eager for Republican support that she is joining them on flag burning!" (I suspect there are people around here who still believe that). Obama and Edwards got the same treatment, but not as badly as Clinton because they weren't on top of the polls as long. (This is one argument for not being the front-runner going into an election).
So I have no doubt Clinton's staff will do like other campaigns' staffs and try to seed the arguments and get their points out before others define them. Same as any challenger to Clinton will do, same as the Republicans will do, etc. It's just how politics works. It's not that they are paying shills specifically to argue on DU. It's that they all have an orchestrated effort to control and spread their message, and that effort includes having paid staff who, amongst other jobs, uses the message boards.
They also send faxes and emails to news agencies, spread whisper campaigns among community organizations like churches or activist groups, and do just about everything above or below board that they can think of. Basically, if you know something about a campaign, what you know got to you because of a paid effort by the campaign or the campaign's challengers.
So, the OP seems to be accusing only Clinton, but whoever you support or oppose, they will have someone here.
