(44,045 posts)I know in some places like DC & NY the professionals have their upscale lofts in the city ($1Mill+) and also the weekend country place getaway in MD/VA/Delmarva Beach or NY Hamptons Beach/CT country.
So that leaves the bombed out dystopian suburbs that lack services for any workers who can't afford cities, I don't know. It's all crazy, wrong and happening fast. That's how the financiers and corporatists operate.
First it was unions, now public schools and teachers demonized, utilities and roads being privatized--it's all very fascist and totalitarian, and swift, like in Naomi Klein's 'The Shock Doctrine'. Except we aren't Chile 1973 with the CIA coupe, but then again maybe we are, it's us now-
One thing certain is that the wealthy investor class has made even huger profits, mountains of $ from their stock portfolios in the last 6 years, and this is driving up metropolitan housing and rental costs, through the roof.
They're getting the chicken and we're getting the bones for sure. No more scraps coming I fear, just more cuts. Often I think left people should head to Cascadia or other regions to try to set up worker co-ops and sustainable land based communities. Some already have. Nothing but misery and decline for workers around cities, and burbs at this rate.
