My wife's cousin and his partner would like to get married. [View all]

They can't, despite being in a committed relationship for over 20 years. They live in Minnesota. Now, they could drive a couple of hours into Iowa and tie the knot, but they will not. They believe that they should be able to marry in the state where they live, work, and vote. I agree with them 100%. Minnesota Republicans have passed a measure that puts an constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage on the ballot in November. In 2010, Republicans gained control of both houses of our state legislature.

Here in Minnesota, and in other states where similar ballot measures are coming up, Democrats need to turn out in numbers never seen before and not only defeat this amendment proposal but to elect a strong Democratic majority that will enact a constitutional amendment guaranteeing same-sex couples the same right heterosexual couples have always enjoyed.

This is one more reason why getting out the Democratic vote in Minnesota and in every state in this country is so crucial. If we fail to do that, we simply fail and may not regain power for a very, very long time.

I'd like to go to their wedding, as soon as possible. Thanks!

GOTV 2012!
