In reply to the discussion: What the hell is up with all this Hillary hate on DU [View all]renegade000
(2,301 posts)it's hard for me not be cynical about the current state of the discussion as well. It's just so early in the process that I find the fixation on Hillary a bit annoying. I want to learn more about and potentially be excited by alternative candidates, and there is some discussion in that regard. However, there's also a lot of very predictable anti-Clinton posting going on, usually of the pattern:
(1) Clinton says something in line with more conservative/centrist attitudes, everyone dogpiles on this evidence of her insidious perfidy.
(2) Clinton says something in line with more liberal/populist sentiments here on DU, this is taken as evidence of her truly diabolic and insidious perfidy.
While we can have a healthy and needed debate when (1) happens (and I am indeed sympathetic to the critical view in this case), I find (2) to be obnoxious. It smacks more of turf-protection by those who like to think themselves the guardians of True Progressivism. To me such statements from Clinton ought to be applauded. If nothing else, it refocuses the discourse on those issues, and might make it easier (rather than harder) for more progressive voices and candidates to be given a platform.
