4. I can imagine this in the US Northeast...where there are interacting metro's already

Which makes the notion of moving faster between city centers seem sensible.

I don't see it in the upper Midwest...there's not nearly the sense of passenger traffic between city centers of say Chicago, Minneapolis and St Louis being an important and expected feature of life.
