Connyland Dolphins Overdosed on Heroin Knockoff
Amusement park trainer described one of the deaths, which dragged out for over an hour, as "horrendous."
Remember Shadow and Chelmers, the two dolphins who died under suspicious circumstances last October at Connyland, a Swiss amusement park?
They overdosed on Buprenorphin, a heroin substitute.

Shortly before the dolphins' deaths five days apart last fall, the amusement park played host to a weekend-long techno party attended by thousands of ravers who were within feet of the cetaceans' tank.

"The reason is that dolphins are conscious breathers which means they actively decide when to come to the surface to breathe, for which they need to be awake. Even when sleeping, there is part of the brain that automatically controls the breathing instinct in the same way as it does for people when asleep. Drugging them with opiates could well cause this part of the brain to switch off with fatal consequences."
