(6,409 posts)Roundup is an herbicide, and we're learning more and more bad stuff about herbicides. Remember DDT? When we built the Panama Canal, we hosed down Central America pretty liberally, and nobody complained because the mosquitoes died. Then the chickens came home to roost. But the eggs were no good because the shells were too thin. Roundup is some pretty powerful stuff. When I worked on a farm, my boss sprayed it to kill weeds. What Monsanto has done is develop a "Roundup Ready" variety of corn by genetically engineering it. That means you can spray more Roundup on the corn without killing it. It's reasonable to expect GMO grains to contain higher concentrations of herbicides, since some of the genetic engineering is specifically aimed at producing plants that can tolerate more herbicides, and stronger herbicides.
