(40,416 posts)I often have to set aside beliefs when the science shows me a new way. But the science of GMO has developed over thousands of years. Nobody credibly can claim that cross breeding in the farmer's field is substantially different than doing it in a lab. And whereas inserting genes into a plant or animal is different in some respects, it is not any different in kind from cross-breeding. They both accomplish the same thing, only one is more specific and testable, whereas cross-breeding is like rolling dice.
Now if one wants to make an argument about safety, know this. You have been eating GMO food for decades and there are no known deleterious health effects. None whatsoever. So there's that.
I support regulation, especially with regards to attempts by companies to control markets via GMO. That means Monsanto, and others need to be roped in.
And there also should be regulation on safety and environmental consequences. I am for that as well. But this is the type of thing science does pretty damned well.
Regardless, what you ask for, labeling, is not realistic because all food is genetically modified and there is no clear line of demarcation.
You are all showing your appalling ignorance.
