A small killer robot which can be mass produced is better than getting somebody on the ground shot up, and probably cheaper too when you balance it against the cost of his injuries to both him and for medical treatment.

It's also better than the other alternative, which is shooting a grenade over the hill when you don't know if the people over there are enemy combatants or civilians in the wrong place at the wrong time.
