(102,663 posts)from an "unavailable" number, my work has those so I answered it but only said hello. The caller asked for me by several names and said that they were calling with a "notice to appear in court" and that a judgement was being made against me... I hung up without another word. They immediately called back but I didn't answer so they left voicemail message with an 844 call back number and a case number to use and that if I didn't call back within two hours a judgement would be enacted against me. They never identified who it was about or anything other than I needed to call that 844 number.
I went to my local police and they said it was a scam. I haven't been feeling well and was kind of unnerved about it but after thinking about it, I have just cleared a couple federal bg checks and there was no issue aside from the fact that I hadn't been served any papers for any legal actions.
The cops said these guys also claim to be from the power company and any number of other businesses. What's comical is that they have even called to scam the actual police dispatcher!!
