Hospital stay kept her away from prom, so prom came to her [View all]

Ryan Gomez and Madison Hurd pose while her mom (Catrece Hurd) takes prom pictures at Children's Hospital. Madison's girlfriends and nurses, with Mom's OK, decorated and arranged for her to get hair and nails done so she could attend prom at the hospital -- since she missed her school prom Saturday at Milford High School. (Her prom dress is lying atop her; she needed to remain in her hospital gown.)

Its prom season across the Midlands, and like many students, Madison Hurd, a 16-year-old junior from Seward, Nebraska, has been waiting and preparing for prom since last year.
She got an after-school job so she could buy the dress of her dreams. She was involved in student council to help with decorating and planning for Milford High Schools The Great Gatsby-themed dance.
But Madisons prom dream was put on hold Monday when she was admitted to the pediatric intensive care unit at Childrens Hospital & Medical Center in Omaha.
She was diagnosed with sepsis. They still dont know what caused it, her mother, Catrece Hurd, said Saturday. She said Madison has since been diagnosed with myocarditis, which is an inflammation of the middle layer of the heart wall.
