(154,021 posts)and I agree mostly with you, but... if people want to pray and donate to a charity, in whichever order, as long as some money goes to the charity... I am cool with it.
Though there are some folks in our society who cannot afford to donate... they tend to be rather poor so giving even two bucks might be troublesome. If they feel better by praying... I can live with that as well.
But mostly I agree with you, that prayer is quite self centered, and really does not help. That said. for accident victims et al, it could. The effect is like that of a placebo, we have some evidence from research (evidence based and all), so I have been known to pray with families.
But if you can afford to spare a couple bucks... give some money to an agency of your choice, and then, if you must, pray.
