First of all - anyone who watched the interview knows that the comments about his political position were made almost in passing. There was very little focus on it at all. I seriously doubt that he is a politically active person. I would be surprised if he actually votes.
Secondly, I have a personal anecdote as to why I think it's good: I have a friend who I have known literally my whole life. She's a right-wing nutbag. I hate that about her. She goes on tirades about Obama being a socialist, blah, blah, blah. After Jenner's interview, she posted something on Facebook like this: "Good for him! I hope he finds happiness and is able to be himself!" Some of her RW friends literally replied with, "I think it's disgusting!!" She replied that we should have compassion and have no idea what it's like to live life with that kind of struggle, etc. It was really touching for me. I honestly don't think she would have done that if he'd declared he's a raging liberal.
As others have pointed out, LGBT are three-dimensional human beings entitled to their own thoughts and ideas. I agree 100%. But I am actually glad that Jenner literally *is* opening hearts and minds. Not all of them, but I saw it for myself and it gave me hope.
Look, I know a lot of LGB... but, like many others, my experience with T is rather limited. If Jenner sharing his story helps us ALL gain a better understanding, yay! He's giving a voice and a face to the issue and if he can help destigmatize, hooray. He seemed sincere, he seems like a good person and I wish him the best.
Is it disappointing he's a Republican? Yes. But not because of his situation, but because I wish EVERYONE was liberal.
Anyway, that's my take on it.
Carry on.
