8. Very true, but there is a big difference between boxing and football.

In football, and about every other sport that can get you killed or injured, the injuries are incidental to the object of the game. But in boxing, the entire goal is to do as much neurological damage to your opponent as possible.

And yes, compared to some other places in the world the US is relatively sane about bloodlust sports.
