"School refuses scholarship presentation to gay student" [View all]

In Clinton, Iowa, there is a school named "Prince of Peace Catholic School" and they are refusing to allow a representative of Iowa's Matthew Shepard Scholarship program to present a sizable scholarship to a young openly gay student.
The school says he can recieve his award on May 20 by a member of the staff. The diocese of Davenport, which rules (or whatever) this region of catholics says having a rep from the scholarship committee violates "policy regarding guest speakers".
Whatever. Sounds like they have a policy against gay students accomplishing something good. Btw, the scholarship is for $40,000 which obviously is a lot of money. The kid worked hard to achieve this honor, he should be allowed to get it from a rep. of the scholarship foundation.
link: www.qctimes.com right on the front page. The article is titled exactly as I have it in the title line of this post. And there is a link for a petition to right this wrong at the same link.
Peace.
