3. Looks like the school and the school board support the kid

they are the ones who steered him towards the scholarship in the first place. The school signed a letter saying it was ok for the sponsors to present the scholarship. The fact he was openly gay in a Catholic school also says a lot.

Looks like the diocese stepped in.
