Texas is a major military state, and relies on its bases for a sizable portion of its economy, especially in cities where military bases are near.

Actually, federal contract spending alone in Texas adds up to almost $20 Billion annually. You can see the rest below:

National Aeronautics And Space Administration spending $3,787,837,000

The total is more than $35 Billion federal dollars going to Texas, just in those numbers alone. Only California gets more.
