I lost it yesterday when i read the newsletter online. I sent an obnoxious email to the people in charge .
heres my email and the reply that made me wish i had taken a walk instead .

dear sir
I read with incredulity the recent editorial in your march news letter concerning the need to have an armed insurrection if President Obama was re elected . Your not condemning this rant speaks volumes . I am here to tell you i will be the 1st person to buy box seats to this event. I can`t wait to see everyone of you racist inbread sacks of shit wiped out where you stand. We as a more enlightened people can move into the 21st century free of your totally ignorant and frankly unchristian fetid philosophy. You folks should just get over the fact you lost the civil war and that blacks now have rights and just join us . fuck !! i get so tired of your shit.

Hello Dennis,

Thanks for your email, though I think it was meant for Ponch rather than me. FYI, prior to my work at WTJU, I worked for Pacifica Radio and Free Speech Radio News. I am friends with a few Democracy Now producers and co-presented a panel with Amy Goodman back in 2006. I am friends with several staff members at KBOO (in your neck of the woods in Portland). If you know about any of those organizations, you must know that my personal politics are not the same as Ponch’s.

Yes, I know that Ponch is a right-winger, though his 5:30-6:00am radio show on early Saturday mornings has never gone anywhere near as far as this newsletter column. Some weeks, his show is a rather vapid litany of leading questions for conservative guests. Other weeks, he brings on not-especially-political non-profits to discuss their issues. Once, he even had a socialist candidate for Charlottesville City Council on the air, which was a very peculiar show to listen to.

Although perhaps you can also understand that having a conservative-tilted talk show (even if marginalized to 5:30am) has a certain political usefulness when my station airs Democracy Now each day during primetime.

As to the issue at hand: I did hear from one of our other DJs about the newsletter a few days ago. But we've been in the middle of a pledge drive, and honestly, I didn’t get around to reading it until today. Ponch’s stance in this article is atrocious. I will have to have an unpleasant but necessary conversation with him tomorrow.

Thanks again.

~Nathan
