(3,747 posts)I'd just be pissed. For someone who isn't religious, all you're doing is making it about you. Your prayers don't matter to me, because if you're right and there is a god, he's the one who gave me this disease/pain/whatever in the first place. Saying "I'll pray for you" is one of the singular most irritating things to me, and I guarantee you many, many non-believers feel that way.

There are better articles and discussions on this, including some good ones here on DU in A&A. Not going to bother to dig them up--this isn't a hard thing to understand with some empathy towards those who don't believe in your religion.
"You're in my thoughts" isn't so bad, just useless and doesn't make me feel any better at all.
