(53,661 posts)38. I was legally able to serve alcohol in a restaurant when I was 18 to help pay for college.
But I was not allowed to drink it, and had no interest anyway.
One time customers from my high school came in and they objected to being denied drinks. One recognized me and called me by name, so I had to talk to them. I explained I knew they were underage, as we were classmates (not friends, though), why they couldn't have drinks.
Because serving it to underage people was a serious liability. Vendors could lose their licenses for it right away.
So these guys had to back down their demands for drinks. But I'd never heard of cashier being restricted though. My experience was from many years ago.
Is it a recent thing? TIA.
