I decided to go with items that can all be used for more than one purpose. The knife being the most essential since it literally can be used for hundreds of things in a survival situation. I next went with the pot over the water purifier, the purifier is not going to be able to make sea water drinkable and eventually you need to change the filter on it. The pot can be used to collect and store water along with boiling it to make it drinkable. It can also be used for cooking. First aid kit looked like a Good pick from the picture because it looks to be filled with items that can be used for multiple purposes but would try to save them for what they were intended for. Finally matches because I don't want to spend hours trying to get a fire started and a fire can be used to cook food, boil water, stay warm and signal ships and planes.
