Everyone is flawed and a good comedian won't hold back because they happen to agree with them politically.
I don't know what he said about Sen Kerry, but good comedy also has a purpose and is used to make a point. Just being nasty for the sake of it, with no purpose (like a lot of right-wing comedy), isn't funny at all.

I don't remember the media repeating John Kerry was conservative. They said he was a liar instead.
