rabid hordes of, for example, Christian evangelicals, many of whom insist to this day that Saddam had WMDs that somehow magically got spirited across the border to Syria.

Please accept this pat on the back from a fellow traveller. I do not take joy in this but I take a certain quiet satisfaction from knowing I was right, they were wrong and history will utlimately vindicate me entirely.
