98. Rope, knife, tent and matches

Rope can be used for a lot of things.. knife can be used to build survival tools such as hunting tools, can also be used to dig out tubers and cut coconuts open. Tent, more comfy than the tarp, and matches, saves on making fire.

Fire is essential and can be used for signaling as well.

A fifth element would be the first aid kit, if available. You got fast kindling in there (gauze), and antibiotic cream.

The knife and the matches are the most essential in that list, with the rope. The first two are critical. The rope can be used to build yourself a nice shelter, fishing, a slew of things.

Though don't knock the ipod, you could potentially use the battery to start a fire. You are talking desperate there... I do not recommend you do it often due to fumes.

And I am ashamed none added a roll of duck tape After watching the myth busters use it for literally everything...
