I'd like to know about the upbringing of each of these individuals and what we can do in the mostly white and some Hispanics communities to prevent young men from getting involved in this.
I had a retired "High ranking" Pagan at my wedding - very nice man. Now. But Doc doesn't gild lillies about what he was. My husband has rode with him for more than a decade. There's on average a 20 year age difference between him and the guys he rides with. He had Pagans try to recruit him years ago - then he had to say -
"My father will kill me if he finds out I'm in a mafia!" His paternal grandfather was Ndrengheta in Italy. This isn't Southern backwoods Italy early 1900's - they had options other than this. His grandfather made sure his sons and grandchildren had options other than organized crime.
Not one of them could learn a craft or a trade and avoid this life?
I say the exact same thing when we have a take down in NJ and NYC of organized crime - and there have been quite a few in my nine years living in NJ.
