the county led the state with almost 79% voting AGAINST the Amendment. Yes.
But this is the place that Jesse Helms wanted to put a fence around, saying
NC didn't need a zoo, it had Chapel Hill (and Carrboro).

My son said it perfectly: " It's unfortunate that the triangle area is surrounded by North Carolina."

The state is NOT all bigots: unfortunately, all the bigots came out to vote.
