Media Matters’ Eric Boehlert: Right-wing ‘went bonkers’ over Romney bullying story

Media Matters for America’s Eric Boehlert on Thursday said right-wing bloggers and activists “went bonkers” over a Washington Post story that accused Mitt Romney of harassing prep school classmates he judged to be too effeminate.

“No one questions the accuracy of this story,” he remarked to Current TV host Jennifer Granholm. “They went bonkers. They said it was a hit job because the Washington Post did a very detailed report on Mitt Romney’s youth.”

Boehlert noted that many conservatives had complained that the media did not do enough to dig up President Barack Obama’s past. Shortly before his death on March 1, prominent conservative blogger Andrew Breitbart had vowed to “vet Obama this time.”

“These are the same right-wing conservatives activists that scream and yell that the press never vetted Obama, they never wrote about his youth, but they did of course,” Boehlert said. “But now when the Washington Post does a completely accurate, above board, fully-quoted, on the record story about Mitt Romney’s youth, it’s a hit piece. So you can’t have it both ways.”
