14. When did we convince ourselves that we can't have nice things?

Why is it outlandish to suggest that we have some of the same things that the rest of the civilized world has?

Socialized healthcare? Why that's evil...
Free education? Not here...
Clean air and water and a decent infrastructure? Not on my watch Mr...

We don't have to sit by in debris and decay so that a few people can make more money than they know what to do with. They've done a great job convincing the dumbasses amongst us that we shouldn't want for these things now. I blame religion for co-opting the GOP and/or vice versa to convince the gullible that their only rewards should come up in the sky after they've led a life of suffering down here at the hands of the rich.
