Back in olden times, it seemed to me that moderators strove to maintain a homogenous point-of-view with which they agreed. It's not fair for just a few people to say "Well, I don't like this. Let's hide it."
To me it seems like the old system was run by a small clique that went out of its way to squelch dissent with its opinion all too often. I've been here more than a decade, and I've seen it more than a few times.

The mod system needed to have a few things fixed but they were fixable. The jury system isn't.
