I worked at a publishing company for 13 years and they eliminated my position. I was laid off in 2010. I received a generous severance package for 6 months, and after that I collected unemployment. But no one was going to hire me at my age. I was 70 at the time I was laid off. Fortunately, I was already collecting social security, but I wanted to work a bit longer to get more money into my 401K. But that paycheck really came in handy, because now I am having to depend entirely on social security. I have no bills, not even credit cards. My car and house are free and clear, so I only have the usual expenses, such as utilities, phone, Internet and home and car insurance.

Be thankful that at least you are working, and I hope your husband finds another position soon.
