(4,234 posts)Obama was not prepared for the economic meltdown and his appointment of Geithner was the perfect indication of that. Obama had and has a love of style and G must have represented style to him, but Geithner shouldn't have been allowed within 1000 miles of Washington or given any responsibility at all in the handling of the mess that he helped create, maybe an ambassadorship in Outer Mongolia.
But that said, Obama got a lot done in the first couple years when he had Congress with him: Wall Street Reform, Student loan reform (somewhat), credit card reform, the ACA, Fair Pay Act, Expand the GI Bill of Rights, Re-authorized CHIP, made the sentencing for crack and powder cocaine more equitable, helped the 9/11 first responders, ratified the START Treaty, repealed "Don't ask don't tell," cash for clunkers, the stimulus, extended the National Service program, saved GM.
And there was a lot more that he helped with during that time and afterward. So his administration was definitely not a waste of time. Just imagine where we would be now if Romney or McCain had been control. It's significant that since 2010, after Republicans regained control of Congress or enough control to stymie anything the Dems tried to do, not one bill of significance passed. Anything significant has come from the states and continues to come from the states.
Bernie is like a breath of fresh air and new HOPE.
