34. I can tell you that as a woman I have dealt with this many times.

Not just on subways -- airplanes too. A lot of men think they should be able to take up as much space as they want and you should be forced to smash yourself over as far as you possibly can to accommodate them. It's either that or have their legs pressing against you the whole time -- which they WILL do. They don't care about invading your personal space; it's a way for some men to assert their power over women...I'm sick of it.
