(45,274 posts)I can guarantee that anybody who bothers to attend a state convention (particularly in an off-election-year) is going to be knowledgeable and committed in their politics. I went to several in years past, until the then Party Leadership (Wineke in particular) drove me away with their cynical manipulations of the crowd & other unsavory actions. The last election cycle, when they rammed Burke down our throats, only confirmed my dismay.
I trust our new leadership will be a significant improvement, shedding the Tate/Rae Golden Mantle.
My bet is that the Bernie bunch will fire up the liberal activists and pull off some surprises. Face it--Hillary people are essentially for maintaining the status quo, with some added attention to civil & minority rights. That just isn't terribly exciting for a whole lot of people. Bernie, on the other hand, threatens to bring real change across the board. The social issues needn't take a back seat to the economic ones, but they can't be the whole of the platform.
