(45,274 posts)I take this poll for what it is--an early expression of some strength among the party activists. It is not any sort of Primary prediction, but it does indicate that there is a body of people out there who may be willing to work for Bernie. I suspect that the average Bernie supporter is a bit more enthusiastic & willing to work for the Cause than is the average Hillary supporter.
And always remember that the word "Socialism" is not as fearful in WI as it is in most of the rest of the country. Despite our recent electoral embarrassments, this is still a state that was settled by German and Scandinavian socialists, that we had socialist mayors in Milwaukee as late as 1960, and the northern tier of counties (Douglas, Bayfield, Washburn) were heavily settled by Finns who brought a co-op movement with them, and who published a very Red newspaper called Tyomies in Superior. I used to tell people "accurately" that "Tyomies" is Finnish for "Pravda." (Pravda, of course, being the Russian word for "Truth."
