The enemy of the State. [View all]
If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.
Joseph Goebbels
I consider myself a pretty loyal citizen, served in uniform, pay my taxes, the normal stuff. But I'm even a more loyal beliver in the truth, and if the quest for truth makes me an enemy of the State, so be it. A lie is not always blatant or easy to see. Allowing laws to be broken in the name of economic expediency, allowing one set of legal rules to be enforced rightly or wrongly against large segments of our citizenry, while allowing individuals with wealth and power to escape punishment for their misdeeds, are just a couple examples of how the State propagates the big lie.
We're teetering close, but we are not yet a full blown police state. What will keep us on this side of the abyss is the truth, and one of the things that keeps me coming back day after day to DU is that there are so many other truth seekers here. Stay vigilant my friends.
