(35 posts)...or minorities. As I female I think he'd do right by me. All women want is to be treated fairly, to not have the cards stacked against them from the get-go. If the candidate standing up for our rights is male, fine. His economic ideas sound like the makings of a more equitable world. My only worry would apply to any candidate, male or female, white or minority: Republicans' actions during the Obama presidency have shown that they will stifle any progress and continue to drag this country backwards. I believe Prez O was and is a great president. But how much can ANY good president really help the American people when the Republican obstructionists want so desperately to transform America, for men and women both, into 3rd world hell scape? Women and minorities are universally oppressed in Republitopia. The seeming inability one person, even if it is The Leader Of The Free World, to protect us, seems almost inevitable now. All our rights are being taken away a state at a time, a Hobby Lobby employer at a time. What can any president do to help us protect out bodily sovereignty, when basically the same "States Rights" idea that Conservatives said gave them the right to keep slavery, they are now using to oppress women? A state at a time our rights are chipped away, and not protected by the federal system. Even the Supreme Court has stood against women, against 51% of America.
Do I feel Bernie Sanders stands for women? Yes. Do I think he can or will help us? Not really, but the same would go for Hillary or any other Democrat. Not unless they feel like starting a civil war to protect female Americans from oppression. Because Republicans will not stop until we have no rights at all.
