(57,936 posts)In our culture it is harder to be a woman than Jewish. That is probably because our Constitution minimizes religious identification in civic life and thus, religious discrimination. There are a lot of countries that have a dominant religion and anyone who does not belong to that religion, especially Jewish people, have a hard time functioning. Some countries are predominantly Muslim or Catholic or some other religion. Some even prohibit proselytizing and converting people from the dominant religion to any other religion.
We don't notice discrimination based on religion quite so much in the US as they do, say in Egypt or even in many European countries. Women had a disadvantage everywhere, I think.
In a way, we who belong to minority religions (I'm a Unitarian) are lucky to be in the US.
