Bizarre debate in U.S. House between LA, CO reps: 'I bet maybe smoking crayfish ain’t good for you' [View all]

When U.S. Rep. John Fleming of Louisiana got into a debate over marijuana with Colorado Congressman Jared Polis on the U.S. House floor, a strange thing happened, according to Denver Post blogger Lynn Bartels.

For some reason, a bizarre discussion erupted about crayfish, er, crawfish.

Polis took offense at Fleming’s comments on what he sees as the negative impacts of legalizing marijuana on Colorado and its children.

“I just wish that you would leave my sovereign state of Colorado alone,” Polis said. “I’m not going to send federal troops into Louisiana to arrest people for whatever you do down there, smoking crayfish. Want me to ban that and send federal troops down there? I bet maybe smoking crayfish ain’t good for you. What if it’s fried? Might clog your arteries, huh?”
