Finland was fighting against the Soviets and lost with the USSR taking a chunk of Finnish territory. Lee then left "plucky little Finland" and returned to England. The Finns then allied with the Germans to try and get their territory back from the Soviets. Lee left before the Finns allied with the Nazis.
