(25,453 posts)I remember distinctly during one of the debates in 2008, the moderator asked the field how they were going to reach out to black voters, since the party hasn't done such a good job of it. They all gave bullshit answers except for Paul, who said something to the effect of: "There's been no policy in the past few decades more destructive to the black community than the war on drugs, and I'm going to end it".
My suspicion is that the guy prioritizes advancing his mostly lunatic (and twice a day spot on) ideology. Back in the late eighties and early nineties, he couldn't find anyone to support him other than the Klan nutjobs, and so he told them what they wanted to hear. Now that he's more of a national figure, he wants nothing to do with them because he knows they're an embarrassment.
